Hand or Computer

Depending on your budget, you may decide to select computerized calligraphy. It is economical and appealing to the eye.  Can be more attractive than "plain" hand-writing but in our computer age, hand calligraphy adds an unrivaled personal touch especially for larger works. But keep in mind that hand calligraphy is an art that takes many years to perfect and therefore will cost more . Due to the demand for hand calligraphy and the time invested in creating each sample, we have made samples available throughout our website. A sample scrolls is currently available for the cost of $20.00 for a  sample. We will gladly deduct this price from any future orders you place with us.

Seating Charts and Scrolls

If your wish is to have a seating chart or scroll, you must allow plenty of time to  perfect your list. A last minute change on a scroll can affect the final product, i.e., the names are all in alphabetically order ... Oops ... you forgot  "Aunt Mildred" whose hip replacement was a textbook success and she has mentioned to several people that she will be able to dance at your wedding. And her last name happens to be Calloway. Ouch!!!  So ... check once ... twice ... and a third time won't hurt. Also get another person to check the list carefully.

About Envelopes

If at all possible, check with a calligrapher before making your final decision on your invitation envelopes and place cards. Though experienced calligraphers have learned to deal with all types of paper surfaces, you may want to avoid problems when trying to locate one who can complete your calligraphy order satisfactorily and within a reasonable amount of time. See samples

About Ink Colors

An experienced calligrapher can match any ink color you desire. When requesting samples, let the calligrapher know your ink color for your invitations so that your samples can be sent in your choice of color. For scrolls, 2 colors and full color is available.

How Much Lead Time

Orders for hand-addressed envelopes. Every calligrapher works at their own pace. Some are quicker while others are more "carefully slower." Though a calligrapher may need only 2 weeks to complete an invitation order, allow at least 2 more weeks for scheduling.

It is suggested to contact us initially 3-6 months before your wedding. And place order 6-8 weeks before your mailing date (6-8 weeks before your wedding) order scrolls about

About Place Cards

Place cards can be a little tricky.

Some have lines to print the name and number on and some are totally blank. Some preprinted styles can conflict with the lettering style being used on the envelope. It can be assumed that most calligraphers would prefer place cards with no pre-printed "M's" or restricting space lines. If buying separately, give the calligrapher a sample of the place card you wish to use. See samples

Names and Address Lists

Having you wedding list printed using a computer is the first preference. The second preference, if a computer is not available is to have the list hand "printed" ... do not use cursive writing, The list will be easier to read and less errors occur because of letter shape confusions. Also keep a copy of the same exact list you give to the calligrapher. Make sure you number your list and know the total number of envelopes.  This will save a lot of time when you are checking your finished envelopes.
